[lubuntu] install adobe flash on firefox

After a long search on the net, I found amjijawad’s first solution on ubuntu thread works.

Simply type in the following and it should prompt you a restart on firefox if it’s installed successfully:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin -y

This is the only command that works on my netbook. The install failed when I tried installing flash directly off Adobe site (even though they seem to have support for it), installed it from the “Lubuntu Software Centre”, and running the second command line with amjjawad’s second suggestion.

Note: Although flash works perfectly fine on my machine now, it slows really dramatically on my web browsing experience. ~_~

[Lubuntu] Autostart Power Manager

On Lubuntu, Power Manager doesn’t autostart on default for some reasons. ‘Found it kind of annoying to click “Run” every time I restart the system. To change this, we do the following 😀 :

1. Go to Menu > Preferences > Default Application for LXSessions

2. Navigate to Autostart tab, enable the checkbox of Power Manager, and double check that “disable autostart application?” is set to no.

You’re done! Hope this helps!

==================================================
Side note about my other Power issue (a really minor one…)
==================================================

After a fresh installation of Lubuntu, the battery status icon was one thing that I found difficult to deal with.

Problem: When I was on battery for the first time, the status icon doesn’t show even when I ran Power Manager. This happen most likely because when I was setting up Lubuntu, I didn’t have my battery included; And after the set up was complete, I restarted the netbook with only the battery. So the system probably didn’t detect my battery device and therefore cannot perform estimation.

Solution: Connect the AC with the battery inserted. It’s as simple as that (but it took me hours asking around forum frantically to figure this out.. orz) It will somehow detect the battery at then.

Change Locale

By default, Kingsoft office is in Chinese locale. We want English!

1. Copy the following into the terminal (note: leafpad is the text editor of my choice):

cd /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/cfgs
sudo leafpad setup.cfg

2. Change UILanguage=2052 to UILanguage=default

3. Save and close the file.

Additional Settings

Just found the advertising homepage kinda annoying. You can change that by tapping Writer > Options > General and Save. At this tab here, we might want to change it to .docx for the default file type and check Start with.. New Document box!

Next time we start up the application, it should take us directly to the working space 😀

Have fun!!
